Resignations
Further to my letter to the TGS community of early July parents will
be aware that Dr Alison Young, our Director of Studies, has placed her resignation
from Toowoomba Grammar School effective the end of 2023. This will follow eight
years of dedicated service. Dr Young will pursue new opportunities on the
Sunshine Coast to be closer to her family. During her tenure, Dr Young has
made a significant impact on the academic program, notably successfully
implementing the ATAR system. Her exceptional leadership and support have
enriched the educational experience for students, leaving the school in an
enviable academic position. While we will miss her presence, we wish her
success in her future endeavours. The School will begin the recruitment process
to find a suitable replacement who will maintain academic excellence and foster
a culture of growth within the school community.
Cathy Keeton has notified
the Headmaster of her intention to step down from the position of Head of Diverse Learners at the end of
2023. The School and our boys have benefited greatly from Cathy's care
and expertise in this area over the past 11 years. Cathy was also
fundamental in contributing to the intervention framework development and
implementation which has enabled a structure for supporting all of our
students, including those with the greatest learning needs to improve academic
outcomes. Cathy has expressed her interest in remaining at TGS in 2024 in
a part time teaching capacity.
After 12 years at our School, Paul
Barton, Head of Department Technologies, has advised me of his intent to
resign from his position. Paul was on a period of leave for the duration of
2023 but has made the decision to relocate to Brisbane and therefore placing
his resignation. Since commencing at TGS in 2011 Paul has made invaluable
contributions to the development of the department, the education of our
students, and the professional growth of his fellow staff members. We express
our deepest gratitude to Paul for his exceptional contributions to TGS.
After a great deal of consideration, Jamie
Lee has made the difficult decision to resign from his position of Junior School Teacher at the end of last term.
Since joining the Junior School in 2012, Jamie made a significant impact, and
his dedication to the wellbeing and growth of the boys under his care was
excellent. Jamie’s contributions to the co-curricular life of the School, particularly
coaching Rugby was truly valued by students, families and colleagues. On behalf
of the entire TGS community, we extend our sincere gratitude to Jamie for his
invaluable contributions to the Junior School. His passion, commitment, and
unwavering support will be missed.
